Re: My freely downloadable EP, done with JVM

Thanks! It is already also available on iTunes and soon Spotify and such. Now working on a full 10 song album which will be a bit more varied in tones and styles, and this time I have a real drummer, not doing it myself - and keyboards. Only doing the stringed instruments myself this time.

My freely downloadable EP, done with JVM

Hello, Here's my 'prog-stoner-rock' EP I made a few weeks back when I had a free weekend alone in the house. It's the first set of songs I've made alone from scratch, starting from playing a digital Alesis drumkit to production and mixing and everything in between. In my previous solo work I've alwa...

Moderator's Note: deeaa has posted a link to his new downloadable EP in a separate thread under the My Tunes section, so I have removed these posts here, since this is a "pics of your rig" thread. Be sure to check his EP out at the link below! http://jvmforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8182 DH

Re: Just the latest recordings of how it sounds.

Thanks! I boost the 2.5K range with parametric EQ something like 10db and add a little bass end too on dirt channels but on the clean channel I boost 4K range about 6db and bass almost as much.

Re: Just the latest recordings of how it sounds.

And the clip goes thru all four channels, starting from clean green, next crunch amber I think, then is 1 green and finally is od 2 green.

Re: Just the latest recordings of how it sounds.

Sometimes I do go for mics. I find the best is combined usually. But for cleans miking is usually the best way to go, it is much harder to make cleans sound good in di because you can't layer Sims and eq's over cleans without mangling it too much. With drives, it's no problem...but if I want a prett...

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Yep that's about it! The di doesn't quite cut it as the only element in a mix, but based on my experiences I'll pick it in a live situation over a mic at grille any day, mixed with amp bleed on stage directly. Also when recording, unless there's a great sounding room, time to tweak and whatnot, I'll...

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Okay, this has been a GREAT learning experience for me despite I've done this for a quarter a century already. You live you learn! Funny thing is, the third one everyone seems to like is exactly the same position people didn't like in the first clips...I can only suggest maybe it's because the mix b...

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Another thing I noticed, the ear is pretty malleable. The clips are sufficiently similar that if I change the order of clips, my preferences change a little, and I like them a little differently. Still have the same favorite, but some clips I like better according to what kind of sound comes before ...

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Thanks! I have to say, it's made me think hard about stuff. This time round I like them differently than the first. Hopefully some more people chime in soon so we can start to analyze.

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Also thanks Tonemeister the noise trick was great...I've used a paper tube to pinpoint a good spot but while playing...the noise trick works great and is easier on the ear!

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Wow, cab impulses is news to me. I don't really think the jvm di out needs any though necessarily, just some verb really is fine, but I've toyed around re-cabinet and such a lot. Those applied to jvm di are way too much, cab impulses seem like they might work much better for re-cabinet treatment for...

Re: Help me select a way to record...

Alright! Now it's where it gets interesting. Five clips now, same as before. There's three recorded with mics, very carefully aimed at loudest/clearest spot between the cone and the middle cap, for two or them and one further towards the cone edge. One clip is again completely computer-generated sou...
