Re: bogner xtc

Thought I'd post a recent demo I made here. This is the red channel of the 20th XTC. Bit of Panama for y'all!

Re: bogner xtc

My favourite amp. Read the schematic the other day so I have info to add here. Plexi mode is basically a nuts-on transitional '68 Plexi. Blue channel adds one extra gain stage between the first two which is not a million miles away from how Friedman does things. Red adds another, this time a cold cl...

Re: Back to say hi with my JVM410HJS review

Hey there Donny, nice to hear from ya! I take it you sold the JS again? What are you using these days, the 5153? I remember this review of the JS one of the better ones for sure. You got me turned into Suhr guitars, thanks! I really wish I could find those YouTube clips you made of the JS way back,...

Re: Back to say hi with my JVM410HJS review

Totally agree and I'm pretty sure I mentioned all of that in the review actually. Like you, I used to use a graphic EQ to boost the front end. I used an MXR 6 band with a slight smile curve, just like yours. That yields one of the best '80s high gain tones I've ever heard. Great amp, miss it actually!

Back to say hi with my JVM410HJS review

Hi guys, long time no see! I don't have a JVM currently but I've been lurking recently, reading a few old posts and miss being around! So I thought I'd post this review of the Satch JVM I did a few years ago as I don't think I ever shared it before... enjoy! https://donstickguitar.net/2015/04/29/rev...

Re: Tubes from Marshall are best?

My newest JVM410HJS has re-badged JJs in the power amp. My previous ones had what you just said erpece. Funnily enough my new one is the best sounding one I've had I think.

JVM Satch into Torpedo Live WITH CLIPS

Quick and dirty clip of my Torpedo Live I hooked up today. First clip is a Marshall cab with G12M-25 Blackbacks, second clip is Marshall cab with G12-T75s, third clip is a MESA cab with Vintage 30s. All IRs are from Ownhammer. Let me know your thoughts. https://soundcloud.com/end-of-the-century/torp...

Re: NAD... Satch JVM

Heya Donnie! Glad to have you back on Team Marshall :) That said, I really like your reviews for the products on your webpage. Thanks to you I now crave a Suhr like nobody's business. I'm still rocking my HJS, still trying to work out a solution for some cabinets (read: cheap fixer uppers). I'm sti...

NAD... Satch JVM

So, new amp day. I haven't played a Marshall for a while so it's a good chance to re-orientate myself. I wanted to see how the HJS would feel next to my Boogie JP-2C. OK, so my biggest worry was that it would feel indistinct, soft and flabby next to the JP... you know, that BAD Marshall sound - all ...

Back once again with da Satch JVM

Hey guys, After a long absence I'm back with an HJS again! I've been playing Mesa Boogies as my main amps which I love, but decided I needed to add that Marshall thing again. It arrives Monday, can't wait to get these tones back! https://soundcloud.com/donnyboiler/friends-hjs-1 Looking forward to ha...

Re: Just picked up a peavey 6505+

I love the 6505s/5150s and also Mesas. Going through a huge Mesa phase right now. They're fairly unfashionable but that doesn't stop them from being world class amps. For the money I've never seen anything built better. I have a three channel Triple Rec and a 5150 iii on a Mesa cab right now. Two gi...

Re: is there a way to reduce gain on 100 watt evh 5153 channel 3?

Cool man. I don't know the ins and outs of it, but I do know that if you look at the 5153 red channel with V6a and V6b removed, you are looking at an SLO.

Re: is there a way to reduce gain on 100 watt evh 5153 channel 3?

There are a number of mods you could do around the gain control which would alter its range, but they will all have much the same result as just running it a bit lower. Your best bet is to put that 5751 in the last position, V6. This position only affects channel three. Better still, it reduces the ...
