Re: N.O.S. Mullard in V3 Really Sweetend my 215C

Note that the V3 DC coupled cathode follower works by loading the previous stage which is one of the triodes in V2, creating an even harmonic distortion unlike any of the other stages in the amp. So when playing with V3 you can also play with V2 to tweak this interaction...

Re: The Meaning of Marshall Model Names?

That family initials thing had been posted in other threads - but my 205 will always be Vintage Modern to me, named after the two channels.

Re: JVM Power Tube/negative feedback question.

You can also add gain/loss in the effects loop, effectively adding a third "in-series" level control. I run 4CM, so for fairly clean low gain lead patches, I add gain in the effects loop, to get the appropriate lead volume and a little power amp saturation. I can get an almost plexi tone this way.

Re: China 6N4J / ECC83 tubes

I put an JJ ECC 823 in to V1 to reduce OD gain. I find JJ's are a little darker than some. So I moved the 6N4J to the PI, works great there too, and it compensates a little for the lack of brightness of the JJ in V1.

Re: Power Amp Theory and guesses...

I did a little testing, and this does seem to be pickup related. And then I quit my band of 4+ years and I'm taking a vacation from performance for a while. So the jvm will be in the bedroom with the Masters on 1, into a small 1x12 cab that has the speaker on a rheostat to cut the volume even more....

Re: Nice simple Guitar set up!

Nothing like plugging straight into the amp... [smilie=icon_wink.gif] Except when you're trying to watch a band play and the guitarist can't tune for shit and is out all night despite trying to tune twice between each song Unfortunately I've seen it more than once Dude, you've seen me play!

Re: Boss MS-3

I think on the ms3 you can configure which message/number you want it to send for each patch - maybe you have to configure that number before it sends a midi message? If the jvm's led is flashing, it is indeed waiting for a midi Program Change message, probably on midi channel 1. (I started this mes...

Re: ECC 823 JJ (reversed 832)

Finally installed this. This tube instantly made OD Orange and Red usable. Edit: Using a JJ for V1b (in addition to V1b now effectively being a 12AU7) seemed to remove the brittleness and add warmth to these modes. Note I still have a 100K from R94/C43 to ground for V1b (OD Channel) gain reduction. ...

Re: Power Amp Theory and guesses...

Powersoak: JVM drives 16 ohm/ 200W resistors (total) with little desktop fan, to a high impedance resistor network that eliminates ground loop and dumps signal, into a pot in a box for level control, into the power amp of a Crate Powerblock. All built into a Vox 1x12 cab that was a Valvetronix combo...
