jvm 205 or 410?

Post by vintageburst84 » Mon Dec 03, 2018 5:46 pm

Hi,

first post of a potential new owner. I'm considering a new amp and I am gravitating toward the jvm series but I just can't decide which jvm I should get. I have the chance to buy a used 205 h for 500 euro or a new 410 for 1000 euro. Both really good prices but I just can't decide which one..I have read discussion about od1 vs od2. The latter being not so great..basically I need 3 sounds: a clean, an ac/dc on steroids and a high gain (think Alice in chains or deftones) to play unfortunately only on headphones in conjunction with a ox amptopbox. Currently I own a dsl 100 jcm but I am not so satisfied..actually I almost hate it..need advices also because I can't try the amps before buying. Thanks

I went the 410. You get two more channels and I like the variety. They have gotten quite inexpensive used. Peter

I have 205 and I'm happy with it, but If I ever get chance to flip 205h for 410h I will do it in a heartbeat.
Clean channel with all 3 mods and completly separated from a crunch channel (again with all 3 mods) is what I am missing and I am guessing you will be missed too. Will 205 give you what you want, of course, but I am assure you will be more happy with 410.

And 1k euro for 410H, brand new and with warranty is acceptable price for The Beast [smiley_twisted]
I would avoid used JVM unless it's from a thrustworthy person. There are loads of mods that people can do to JVM but I am not conviced that many did it right way.

Hmmm... not sure I would pay double to upgrade my 205h to a 410h. Use a Maxon OD808 up front and that 205h covers slot of ground. My only concern is the hate for DSL...JVM is better, but still a Marshall. Also if I had to only use headphones I would consider a Line 6 Helix rig.

That digital stuff is boring.. i have owned a Kemper for few years and i must say that is great but a real amp with OX is even better and i kept gravitating toward jvm profiles.. with dsl the main problem is that the channels are. Ot balanced and the eq for clean is different than od and also other problems.. i don't like it

410 no doubt.

Buy what you really want from the beginning. It saves you money in the long run.

410 definitely - it can give you - CLEAN, CRUNCH, HI-GAIN Rhythm Channel (OD1) and a lead channel (OD2) - at least that's how I use it!

Good call on the 410.

The clean is much better on the 410 than the 2xx series. That and OD1 is worth the extra cost. There are no compromises on the 410, which I always found on the 205 and 210 I used to own
