I had the morning off today and while I was playing my G&L Legacy, which is always a little bright with the JVM, especially on the OD channels/modes, even after pulling the treble back. Then it occured to me to try turning the Presence all the way down....

It was PERFECT! On all channels and modes! I was afraid it might not work with the clean mode, but no problem, there was still plenty of spank and sparkle! WOOOHOOOO!!!

I have no idea why I never thought about trying that before...DOH!!

Wow, a GUITAR with a presence control? Cool [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Glad you found something to add spice to your tone :D That's the best - improving what's already awesome [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

I guess I didn't make myself clear, I turned down the Presence on the JVM.

But my G&L does have global treble and bass controls, rather than two tone controls like Fender uses. I really like that, that way I can take the bright edge off the bridge pickup without affecting the bass at all...or if the neck gets muddy you can pull back the bass without losing treble. I find it much more useful than standard tone controls!

I adjust the presence whenever i change guitars. For my emgs i use it at 12 oclock, and for my Dimarzio evolutions its 9 oclock. This is all i have to adjust [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]
Both the resonance and presence act as a master eq i find.

I use the Presence and Resonance controls to account for tonal changes that occur from venue to venue due to ambient room acoustics. I never have to touch my other settings because of this feature.

I use it the same way leebone does... Run presence higher on lower output guitars like my Yam and lower for my X w/EMG's

Right about the global EQ in a way... for me it controls the amp's "attitude". Gets nastyer the higher you set them [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Presence knob: isn't that supposed to be turn all the way down anyway? [smilie=icon_wink.gif]

You know I learned that trick when I had the JVM. I think those knobs are there for when you've got to play quiet, or as someone said for room acoustics. I get plenty of spank with my G&L (neck and middle) with the presence and resonance around 9:00 on all channels. Works fine for the other axes too. But I also run a brickwall EQ cut at 5 kHz to top out in front, and just turn the bass down in the channels. For some reason I get a real clear tight sound.

I too have been messing with the presence and resonance controls:

You know my complaint of not enough punch and bottom end in OD1 orange? well I turned resonance UP about 3/4, and turned the bass DOWN on all channels except OD1!

Presence stays about half-way.
