I have had a nightmare with my amp Live of late!

We have been playing medium venues but from small corners of the room. My amp becomes almost inaudible the moment i move to the side of it. It seems to have a massive throw of sound, but the spread does not seem wide enopugh to prove audible once I start to stray. Is my hearing up the shoot or is there a solution...?

I have been looking at the sonic diffusers but want to know if the cabs are not set right through the amp before i justfy their expense.

Mate,

That's normal for Marshall 4 X 12s, in fact most cabs. I have the same problem but get over it by miking up the bottom cab and feeding some into my monitor which is off the speaker centre line, ie I can move around and hear it all. Having said that, there's nought like standing right in front of the stack when grinding thorugh some decent rock or metal tunes!! You cn rally feel the sound pressure level!! YEAH!

Jim

I have noticed a significant difference between my ENGL cabs (frontloaded)
and my Marshall cabs (rearloaded)...
The frontloaded ENGL cabs have a much wider spread than the rearloaded Marshall
cabs which are more directional.
I have beamblockers in the Marshall cabs now, helps a bit.

Perhaps it would be worth buying a set of sonic diffusers and giving them a whirl.

May I suggest this stuff

http://www.mcmaster.com/
Part number: 85735K72

Sorry for the 27 page read on this, but you'll get the gist in the first 6 posts: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=470956

Here are some photos on how to use it. I copied these from a Vox Combo amp, but you just do this for each speaker in your cab. It really cuts down on the kill zone directly in front of the cab so you can actually stand off to the side and adjust your tone. It does this without messing with the sound phasing since in reality most of the "beam" is coming from the edge of the speaker. I've done this on my 412 and it really helped. Total cost for a 412 is $22. For a full stack it would be $44.

lightly spray this with the spray on adhesive mentioned in the thread

attach to the grill like this

yeah, closed back cabs are very directional. You could always put a cab facing across the stage as a side fill. Or my favorite solution would be to crank it up a little more [smilie=icon_lol.gif] banana_rasta

OK so I am now happier on stage with my full stack. However I do desire a change of sound, a little more clarity!

My cabs are loaded with standard Celestion G12-75's. I am looking a purchasing a four set of V30's, but I want just 2 for each cab, keeping 2 g12-75's in place (call me odd!!!!).

Is this a possible thing to do? Pressumably just swapping out the old speakers is the way to go.
