Hey!

I usually play side by side with the cab but this way the sound's very scooped...whereas standing in front of the cab its too harsh [smilie=icon_confused.gif]

Were do you stand in relation to the cab when rehearsing?

I like standing roughly 45 degrees off of either front corner. Doesn't really matter how far. Same way I like to mic a speaker.

We practice in a configuration approximating our stage setup. This translates into the cab being in back of me and to the side of the drums. We find that practicing in this manner provides the best understanding of how our dynamics will translate to real performances (how much the drummer can hear guitar, bass / how we all can hear each other).

Maybe you try to set up your speakers in an angular position to the walls. I you set it straight against a wall, you will have reflections which will probably interfere some of your frequencies. This could make a thin sound.
I have the same problem in our rehearsal room. I use two speakers set up in different directions. One is set in a 45 degree against a wall. It helped.

I only have 1 cab [smilie=icon_confused.gif]

Standing in front of it like in a concert is not very healthy to the ears either [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

I have always had the amp slightly to the left or right of me. Being a vocalist who spends a lot of time positioned at the mic, I have always been more comfortable listening to the amp in this way. It never did feel right to be blocking the sound too much by standing in front of the one amp.

Maybe put some V30's on it?

I'm considering replacing the G12T's, to get an edgier sound, what do you think?

Weber Beamblockers maybe?
Besides taking out the spikes they also
spread the sound around a bit.

I think you should try a V30 cab before you buy one or change speakers (if you haven't). Quite a lot of people find the V30 cabs even more harsh than the G12T's. Also try "bottom straight cabs" I find the slant cabs position the top speakers to blast you right in the head with high frequencies! I switched to a bottom cab. Problem solved. I haven't tried the bottom 1960 lead though. (not that I remember anyway...my memory can be suspect sometimes though)

I know..I'll try one first before swapping [smilie=icon_wink.gif]

The thing is the G12T sounds really scooped to me (the mids are on 12:00), and I also find It very boomy, especially with the les pauls.

I would suggest leaving the bottom two G12Ts and swapping the top two G12Ts w/ V30s to get a fuller freq response. I use this config with my 1960a cab. Saves some money compared to swapping all four.

Just a thought.
