if you want to keep the "perfect match" then yes, an output is missing but otherwise it would be the same case as having a 16ohm speaker in the 16 ohm output and pull two tubes. Nothing will happen.

But please note that this is for a 100W head with two tubes pulled and "converted" to 50W. If the amp is a 50W one designed as 50W then the 1st approach and the "perfect match" is still valid.

cheers
Santiago

Thanks for update Santiago. Got it. I am currently running my converted 50W JVM410H with two 8 ohm cabs plugged into the 4 ohm outputs, so sounds like 8 + 16 ohm plugged into the 4 ohm and 8 ohm outs will be a comparable configuration.

Cheers,
MP

there won't be a mismatch if you plug the 8ohm cabinet into the 1x4ohm output and the 16ohm cabinet into the 1x8ohm output. Everything will be perfectly matched and the power splitted equally into both cabinets.

Tons of thanks, Santiago! I tried this and apparently both cabs are now equally loud. It also gives me peace of mind knowing that there is no mismatching going on. [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

I've always thought that when using two cabs they would both have to be connected to the same output on the JVM.

sorry Pellick... [smilie=icon_redface.gif] I was wrong... but I knew it would not hurt your amp...
I did not realize there would be a volume/power diff...

Hey, no prob Todd! You gave me a solution that worked and it didn't do any harm at all. What's to be sorry about? [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

Santiago,
I just scored an 8 ohm 2x12 cab to add to my JVM combo. Does the same rule apply if I connect the 8 ohm cab to the 1x4ohm output, and the JVM speakers to 1x8ohm output? I just want to confirm that I understand correctly since the manual isn't very clear on this and I don't want to fry my JVM.
