Way back into the Blues - JVM410 OD-2 RED

Post by wolbai » Sun Jun 12, 2016 3:36 pm

Way back into the Blues

With this new song I have reached a virgin territory in my recordings:
The Bass and all keyboard tracks are recorded with a midi keyboard into my Cubase Artist 7 software.
The drums are created with EZ Drummer 2. This is a pretty good tool for a rapid and flexible creation of individual drum tracks.

It took me a quite a bit of time to be familiar with this new recording environment.
Retrospectively I am pretty happy that I have gone that road: I have reached an unknown level of creative capabilities for future recordings. And I clearly see that I just have only reached the tip of the iceberg so far.

The song is in the style of my everlasting guitar hero [smilie-rock]
I have used my Gibson Les Paul with Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups for the various guitar tracks. This seemed to me most suitable.

The idea to the title came up during the recordings when I realized that more and more bluesy licks came to my mind.
This songs is therefore also a return to my British Blues Rock roots to a certain extent.

I used my OD-2 / RED channel on my JVM410. With a low gain level (2 of 10) and a tube screamer in front I can squeeze out some dynamics while working with different pups and the volume knob on the guitar.

During the video recording my facial features have partially slipped away [smilie=icon_mrgreen.gif]
Well, I think I just have to go through this some how [smiley-facepalm]

Have fun while listening / watching:

I am looking forward to your feedback - wolbai [smiley-shreds]

Great tone
Sorry, that was a bit understated.
I actually really enjoyed the tone and the song. Keep 'em coming!

ConradK: I feel honored - thanks for your feedback!

Since I am a lousy singer, it is always a challenge for me to compose an instrumental song which does not become boring after one minute.
My trick is, so to speak, to play guitar in line with a vocalist and composing the song pretty much like a vocal song with an Intro, verse, chorus, Outro, etc.

All the best - wolbai

Hi Andy,

thanks for your nice feedback [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

Here are my JVM410h settings on the OD-2 RED channel:
- Vol. 5/10
- Bass 4/10
- Mid 10/10
- Treb 5/10
- Gain 2/10

Master Vol: 6/10, Resonance: 0/10, Presence: 10/10, No amp Reverb

This is my signal chain for the recording:

- Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups (during the recording I work a bit with different pup positions and the volume knob)

- Fractal Audio FX8 MultiFX (4CM cabling):
- Tube Screamer TS8 mod as a pre effect (parameter settings: Drive = 0/10, Tone = 5/10 and Level = 10/10)
- Noisegate "GateExp" as the first post effect to reduce the noise floor from the JVM410 pre amp section (Threshold -30dB)

- JVM410 H

- Radial JDX DI-Box (with a 2x12/4x12 cab simulation)
--> Rivera Rockcrusher attenuator (to record a bedroom level) --> Marshall 2 x 12 cab
--> Steinberg audio interface UR22

- Cubase Artist 7 DAW: I have used some post effects like Reverb and Delay from the DAW

During the recording I listen to my nearfield monitors from KRK ROKIT 6.

All the best - wolbai
