Has anyone tried these tubes? If so what was your result and what position did you have them in? Thanks so much!

no experience from myself, but a tube-nut over at another forum tried them.... they're just a very expensive tungsol according to him... for that amount of money you would have some decent NOS-tubes

No need to feel sorry, if they'll sound good, you made a good investment! Just try and find a cheaper version of that tube [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Thanks Jackie... BTW Thanks to everyone who posts in this forum. I have been pouring over all your posts and find them very informative. I'll let you all know how these Genalexs sound once they arrive.

well at least with these pretty negative comments you'll listen to them quite critically...

Those Gold Lions make me curious too. I read from thetubestore.com that I guess theyre really fat and mellow while still being defined. Then I saw the same comment on another forum about how this guy bought them and was pissed he spent $50 on a Tung-Sol clone.. I have a lot of Tung-Sols already so I dont need that haha.
Here's whats under the hood. I have some personal tweaks to these mods but here's generally what I have going on my amps per Andy's request.

JVM 410H:
-2203 modded OD1 and OD2 (see Casey's mods)
-Plexi modded Crunch channel (see Casey's mods)
-2203 negative feedback mod (see Casey's mods)
-6550 power section
-4H choke (plan on switching to 3H MM choke eventually)
-100uF caps on the screens (see Casey's mods)

Haze 40 C:
-Hotrodded JCM 800 mod (see "Convert Haze 40 into JCM 800" thread in Other Amps section)

DSL 100:
-No mods yet.

Well I received the Gold Lions. I do not have any Tung Sols so I do not have any thing to compare them to. The Genalex's sounded harsh to my ears.

So its not like what that guy said.. As far as you thinking they are too harsh that sounds Tung-Sol-ish to me. I like Tung-Sols but a lot of people find them too bright or thin.

I got one 12ax7 Gold Lion Russia Verizon today. (Gold pins)
I have all stock Marshall tubes.
So I have it in V2 and it sounds pretty good. I did a lot of swapping the tube back and forth with the stock to the Marshall 12ax7. I can tell a difference. More low-mid frequency and less brittle high end. It seemed to take the high end crunch edge off and make it warmer and punchier. I like it so far because it helps make my OD gains more manageable now. I’ll be playing this weekend so I’ll get a good live test on the tone with the band. The only mod I have is a Mercury Magnetics MC10H choke.
I did try it in V1 and it sounded terrible. High and brittle. Weird nsasty peavey frequencies. Yuck. V2 seems to be a good spot.

1960A and 1960B cabs. My friend got the PRS MT-15 and the Orange PPC 212 open back (two 12”). It has the low end frequency rumble. Though maybe it was the orange cab but he hooked it up to my 1960’s and it sounded the same. A low frequency punch. I could not get that in my Marshall no matter how I twisted my knobs. With the Gold Lion in V2, it really took on more of the PRS MT-15 flavor of the low end punch. Amazing how one tube affects so much. In my OD 2, when I lower it increase the gain, you can really hear the low-mid frequency swoop. Wild. With stock it was way too much saturation past 4 gain to even know what if any change were going on. Still OD 2 is super saturated and I run it at 9 o’clock on the gain. My crunch channel was affected too. The orange was really noticeable. It was easy to get it to break up but with the Gold Lion, it doesn’t break up as easy. So now my crunch Red is where I want my distortion for heavy chords and leads.

Summary: tight low-mid end tube that doesn’t break up as easy. Warm tones more for body.
