New JVM410HJSB owner. OMG!

Post by Rograt » Tue Jan 03, 2017 6:00 pm

Hello all

Drove 2 hours on New Year's Day to pick this beast up.

My amp history (from recollection):

- Dads Philips VHF radio and original Germanium Fuzz Face
- Winfield (Woolworths) Solid State amp
- Vox AC30 Twin, non top boost
- Sound City Concord combo
- Marshall 1x15 combo
- Fender silver face Twin Reverb
- Acoustic 164 EV combo
- Mesa Boogie Mark III 1x12
- Marshall 6101 LE Combo added
- Mesa Boogie Mark IV combo, previous two sold
- Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 Purple full stack. Boogie sold. Then no change for 8 years.
- Peavey Mini Colossal added
- Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb added
- Marshall 2266 head, purple added
- Fender 1974 silver face Deluxe Reverb bought from friend added
- Marshall JVM410HJSB added

As you can see. I like the Vintage Modern! I also like versatility - which ultimately neither the Boogies or the 6101 delivered well for me.

First thoughts about the new amp? Just amazing. I'm not going into detail at this stage but the way you can set channels up to cross into each other and the way you can even switch between modes successfully (not in all combinations though) is just great.

And then compared to the VM you always have a proper clean at one end and various flavours of filth at the other end, all with a surprisingly effective noise gate.

The amp works great with the green backs sounding surprisingly modern and wide ranging.

Even more bizarre the blue head matches the purple cabs well.

The tone? Awesome.

I'm going to have fun with this. Thanks to the forum in helping me buy this amp blind.

The 6100 wasn't versatile enough? I've never owned one, but I've played them. Seemed versatile to me.
My gear list? Do a search.

There were certainly enough options. Main issue was that when gain was turned up on the lead channel there was a distinct loss of top end, to the point where you couldn't hear left hand pull offs. I'm sure some would live with roundness but for me this made that channel unusable. Crunch channel was great.
