New JVM Owner from VA

Post by novafx4 » Sun Sep 10, 2017 9:54 pm

Hello everyone. I've just purchased a brand spanking new JVM210H and have stumbled upon your forum while looking for advice on dialing in a decent tone. I currently have the head connected to a stock 1960A cab and use my pair of Les Paul traditionals to make them sing. From what I've seen, the boards are a wealth of info and I look forward to meeting you.

Steve

Here's a quick shot of my rig all set up in our rehearsal room.

Congrats. Welcome.

Dial in some tones twice before making any mods. Plenty of good mods available, but have a clear "vision" of what tone you are looking for before you mod.
JVM205h. Added 100K from R94/C43 to ground for V1b (OD Channel) gain reduction. Installed 1000pF in series with 47K, in parallel with R58 (82K), to reduce power amp squeal. V3 Valve Wizard diode protection mod. Active power soak for more EL34 goodness.
Guitars: Angus Young Sig SG w/ Pearly Gates Neck and Custom Custom Bridge, Les Paul Special (2 pups) w/ SD Stacked P90s. And occasionally a Warmoth Strat w/ Dimarzio True Velvet in N, M, SD P-Rails in B.
HD500x in 4CM for all pedals and Midi control of 205h (grounds lifted on two of the signal cables).

I've got around 12 hours on the amp so far have started getting some really good sounds out of it during our rehearsals. I'm still figuring out the amount of time it takes to get fully warmed up. It seemed to take more than an hour of steady playing earlier this week to finally come alive. It doesn't sound terrible when first powered on but when it fully kicks in there's a noticeable difference. I have no intention of making mods just for the sake of making mods. I'll figure out what, if any, mods are needed at some point in the future.

Well, the forum died shortly after I joined last year. My JVM210 head has broken in nicely and I've since added another to the family. I've picked up a JVM410C which makes me wish I had sprung for a 410 head to begin with. I've gigged it once and it sounded great.

Here's a shot of it if you're interested.
